2nd Classroom Observation/ Teacher Interview

Classroom observations

I have been observing in a 3 year old preschool classroom.  In this classroom I have been observing children who have both a mother figure and a father figure in their lives.  After talking with the teacher I was able to have a clear view on the dynamics of each child.

The last module my focus of my research paper was the importance of parental involvement.  This week I wanted to take my topic to a new level, and see how important a mother and a father figure is in a child's education.  Once I knew the children's family dynamics, it was shocking to me how emotionally stable the children with both parental figures acted.  I don't know all the details of all the children in this class, but i was very amazed how socially and emotionally behind the children were that did not have both a mother and a father figure.

After this week’s observation I decided to restructure my research paper.  My new focus questions will be; What is the importance of parental involvement in education? and, what is the importance of having both a father and a mother figure involvement is?

  1. Hello Jana!
you are in the right path for your research paper. I think that you will find a big difference between those children that have two parent figure versus the ones that only have one. parent involvement does make a huge difference in children learning and growth. I am saying this because I had the experience with my children the more we are involved the better because they see the motivation, enthusiasm, and the joy. when parents are involved in their children life children feel very proud to accomplish what they want, because they know they can count on us.

  2. In a nation where over 50% of the marriages end in divorce I think many children are without a father figure or 2 parents living in the home. What did you observe? What insights did you gain from this experience? How does what you're observing 3 -4 hours/module connect to your plan?

  3. I really like your topic; I would be interested in reading your paper to see what you find in your research! I feel that parent involvement makes such a difference in a child’s education and childhood experiences. Knowing that your parent cares is such a good feeling for a child. It isn’t always that the child is behind developmentally without a parent; sometimes they may have a lower self-esteem, or have trust and relationship building challenges. Also, many children do not have mother and a father, but they have two guardians that take on that role. Maybe you want to consider researching the importance of a mother and a father as well as having two guardians that love a child. Good Luck!!
